What is a referring agent, and who can become one?
A referring agent earns money with their real estate license by referring buyers and sellers to outside agents via a licensed brokerage like Florida Referral Group (#BK3223364). Referring agents get paid a commission without having to do the legwork involved with making the sale.
A referring agent can be a licensed real estate agent who:
- Wants to retire from a career in real estate.
- Has a system to generate buyer and seller leads.
- Wants to temporarily pause their real estate career.
- Is moving out of state and wants to keep their Florida real estate license.
- Has or wants to pursue a career in a different field.
- Is a stay-at-home parent.
Becoming a referring agent is easy!
What are the requirements to sign up as a referring agent with Florida Referral Group?
Any real estate agent with a valid Florida real estate license can sign up for our program. We will ask for your license number during the sign-up process. You must retain an active Florida real estate license for as long as you remain a Florida Referral Group referring agent. Visit the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) for more information on how to renew your license.
As a referring agent, can I live outside of Florida?
Yes, you can be a referring agent with Florida Referral Group and live anywhere! You will, however, need to maintain your Florida real estate license.
As a referring agent, can I have another career?
Yes! As long as you maintain your active Florida real estate license, you can have another part-time or full-time career and earn extra money on the side with Florida Referral Group. In fact, our real estate referral program was designed for people just like you.
How much can I make on a referral?
When you refer a lead to an outside agent via Florida Referral Group (FRG), you can set the commission rate for that referral. For most real estate transactions, a typical referral fee is 25%-30% of the outside agent’s commission on a sale. For illustration purposes, let’s imagine a referral where the commission rate is 25%. The outside agent who received the referral closes a sale on a $400,000 property. Their selling agent commission is typically $12,000 – 3% of the sale price. In this case, FRG would receive a referral fee of $3,000 (25% of $12,000). Then, depending on the plan you selected as a referring agent (see Plans and Pricing), FRG would pay you between 90%-95% of the $3,000 referral fee. In the end, you would walk away with $2,700-$2,850 for the referral.
How much does it cost to be a Florida Referral Group (FRG) referring agent?
Florida Referral Group’s fees include an annual fee, monthly fees (if any), and commission sharing. The annual fee is $295. You can select one of our two plans with different monthly fees and commission sharing rates. One of our plans, for instance, has a $0 monthly fee, plus 10% of any referral fees you earn (you keep 90%). Another plan has a $199 monthly fee, plus 5% of any referral fees you earn (you keep 95%). Check out our plans and pricing for more information and additional plans.
Aside from the fees described above, you will also be responsible for any costs related to keeping your Florida real estate license active. Visit the DBPR for details.
Does FRG require continuing education?
We do not require continuing education to qualify for our referral program. However, continuing education may be required to keep your real estate license active. Visit the Florida DBPR for more information.
Who can I refer?
You can refer buyers and sellers to any (licensed) outside agent of your choice, in any state, for any type of real estate transaction – including commercial and new construction. You can even refer yourself! If you are personally buying or selling a property, you can send your own name as a referral to another agent and earn commission on the referral.
How do I place a referral through FRG?
After enrolling in our program, you can send referrals through our Agent Dashboard by clicking Send a Referral. Next, simply select the outside agent to whom you’d like to refer the lead or add a new agent to our database. Then, enter the information about the buyer or seller you are referring. We’ll handle the rest from there! Our system will automatically generate the referral form and sent it to the outside agent for signature.
How do I keep track of my referrals?
After your referral form is generated, your work is done! You will receive periodic email updates on the progress of your referral. Plus, you can check your Agent Dashboard under My Referrals to check the status of your referrals at any time.
How do I get paid for my referrals?
Once the deal you referred closes, Florida Referral Group will receive the referral commission from the outside agent’s brokerage. Then, we will mail you a check with your cut (90%-95% of the referral commission, depending on your FRG plan). To receive your payment, you will need to submit a W9 form to FRG. A W9 form is available for download in your Agent Dashboard.
As an FRG referring agent, can I still list properties for sale or represent buyers?
For as long as you are a referring agent with FRG, you are ineligible to list properties, represent buyers, or participate in negotiations. You are licensed by FRG for referrals ONLY.
Why can’t I send a referral directly to another agent instead of joining Florida Referral Group?
According to Florida real estate law, all real estate referrals involving commission must take place through a licensed broker. Florida Referral Group is a licensed brokerage, #BK3223364.
Our services extend beyond acting merely as a legal covering for your referral transactions. These services include:
- Providing an easy-to-use system for sending referrals.
- Handling all the referral paperwork and obtaining the necessary signatures.
- Following up on your referrals and updating you on their progress.
- Providing you with training resources on how to turn your real estate contacts into referral income.
All these benefits are included with any of our referring agent plans.
I am a licensed real estate agent who would like to receive referrals. Can you help me with this?
Absolutely. Start by visiting our Agent Directory to meet our referring agents. You may even find an agent you know! Feel free to contact an FRG referring agent directly and introduce yourself. Tell them about your real estate experience and the types of buyers and sellers you are interested in working with. The referring agent may agree to start referring leads to you!
